Description

Teach literacy, Adult Basic Education (ABE), vocational skills, and High School Equivalency (HiSET) courses to incarcerated students. Develop and deliver lessons that support academic growth, career readiness, and personal development, while fostering a safe and positive learning environment within the correctional setting.

Job Duties

  • Teach literacy, Adult Basic Education (ABE), vocational skills, and HISET preparation to offender students.
  • Assess student educational needs using formal (CASAS) and informal methods.
  • Develop individualized learning plans and guide students in setting educational goals.
  • Deliver lessons using multi-level materials and maintain accurate student records and progress reports.
  • Administer CASAS, and HISET practice tests to track skill growth and readiness.
  • Collaborate with counselors, Special Education staff, and colleagues to support student success.
  • Supervise, train, and schedule offender teacher aides and educational assistants.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, custody, and security procedures.
  • Participate in curriculum development, professional development, and required DOC security training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorâ??s degree & successful teaching experience is required.
  • Candidates must pass CCF security clearance and be able to graduate from the Iowa Department of Corrections Training Academy.
  • Ability to pass a background check

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 10lbs
  • The employee frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, telephone and basic office equipment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear 
  • Ability to drive company owned or personal vehicle.
